This year in August as usual, we had a coach load of visitors from our German twin city of Duisburg visit us.
They had a packed itinerary and we arranged a dinner for them and some interested local people on the Wednesday evening. We were ably helped in this by Ken Ebbens and the Southsea Castle Rotary Club
They also were invited to have tea/coffee and biscuits with the Lord Mayor on the Friday.
Among the many topics of discussion during this week, was the 70th anniversary of our twinning link, beaten only by Bristol and Hannover we are hoping to have an event here in Portsmouth for people from both cities to get together. We are working on the weekend before next year's mayor making and that week, in order to have dignitaries from Duisburg here in the city as well.
The time frame for our event here in Portsmouth is May 17th to 21st and we hope to have at least one main event, most likely on Sunday May 18th and possibly another on Wednesday May 20th. The Mayor Making Ceremony will take place on Tuesday May 19th.
We are working with Duisburg's Portsmouth Freunde to get some acts (singers etc) over to Duisburg for the weekend and start of the week beginning May 23rd (timeframe May 22nd to 27th) The Fine Voice Academy have already expressed their interest in taking part and travelling over to perform in Duisburg to help our two cities celebrate 70 years of friendship.
If you are an act that could perform in either Duisburg or Portsmouth, then do please let us know...
